A Bold Step Towards Predicting Seizures with AI

On February 26, 2025, ITR VN was honored to welcome mjn-neuro to Vietnam to collaborate on developing the next generation of advanced EEG wearables for seizure prediction. This project is funded by CDTI Innovación - Spain's Center for the Development of Technology and Innovation, under the Multi-País program. The primary goal is to enhance existing technology to predict seizures before they occur, providing patients and caregivers with more time to respond and prevent accidents and injuries.
Epilepsy and the Urgent Need for Seizure Prediction
Epilepsy affects over 50 million people worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). This chronic neurological disorder causes uncontrolled seizures, which can lead to severe injuries or even fatalities if not managed effectively. Currently, most epilepsy monitoring devices detect seizures only after they begin, relying on motion tracking or heart rate changes. This limitation leaves patients vulnerable, as they lack sufficient time to prepare or seek assistance before a seizure occurs.

Collaboration Between ITR VN and mjn-neuro in Seizure Prediction Technology
To address these limitations, ITR VN and mjn-neuro are collaborating to develop an advanced EEG wearable capable of predicting seizures before they happen. The device analyzes EEG brainwave patterns in real time, identifying distinctive abnormalities and issuing early warnings 1 to 3 minutes before a seizure occurs. Designed to be ultra-compact, low-power, and convenient for daily use, this technology provides patients with crucial extra time to prepare, reducing injury risks and improving quality of life.
8 Key Features and Benefits of the New Device

- Standardized design, no need for personalization: Enables faster production and distribution.
- Immediate availability: Ready for use without customization.
- Standalone, all-in-one operation: No need for external accessories.
- Integration of hardware, software, and AI: Enhances EEG data processing accuracy.
- No Bluetooth or Wi-Fi required for operation: Ensures reliability and data privacy.
- Early warning before seizure onset: Empowers patients with proactive measures.
- Faster AI model adaptation: Quickly learns and adjusts to individual users.
- Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone monitoring and secondary alerts: Allows caregivers and doctors to track patient status remotely.
CDTI Innovación Support - A Key Driver for Project Development
We are pleased to announce that this collaboration with mjn-neuro has received public funding from the Spanish government through CDTI Innovación's Multi-país Perte Salud de Vanguardia Projects program. This support is instrumental in advancing technological innovations in healthcare.

The two-year project, titled "Future Application of an Embedded System with an Integrated AI Solution for Epileptic Seizure Prediction," aims to enhance current devices with cutting-edge technology. Key improvements include developing an autonomous system with AI-driven seizure prediction, implementing the RISC-V open-source architecture for AI integration, and optimizing the device for greater efficiency and flexibility.
As part of the project, mjn-neuro representatives traveled to Vietnam from February 19 to 28 to collaborate with ITR VN in Ho Chi Minh City. The focus was on refining the device’s electronic board under the CDTI Multipais project, leveraging expertise in microelectronics and next-generation components.
This project marks a significant step forward in MedTech innovation, offering a breakthrough solution that enhances safety, independence, and overall well-being for epilepsy patients worldwide.
